The Nose Dive Assembly UK Tour Interview
The award-winning troupe presents the third and final installment of their Risk trilogy
What was your first memory of live entertainment?
For many, this might be a children’s show, family theatre or circus variety shows; contemporary circus company Revel Puck is once again on a mission to create top quality entertainment for everyone, bringing its contemporary circus show, The Nose Dive Assembly to this year's Brighton Fringe following a world premiere in London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
To find out more about this brand new show and how the Revel Puck combine quintessential immersion with astonishing skills in thrilling acts for all ages, we spoke to the creatives behind the company for a sneak peek…
MM: The Nose Dive Assembly will soon be visiting various locations around the UK. How is the show different from other circus shows?
RP: At The Revel Puck Circus we have a unique approach to creating and staging our shows and we cultivate an atmosphere of community and welcome for everyone. So you’ll see high level circus skills, shown with heart, welcome and joy. The Nose Dive Assembly offers the full big top tent experience of a tradition, with the story and concept of contemporary circus.
M: Who is this show for? Will children enjoy it as much as adults?
R: This show is for everyone! Anyone at any age will enjoy The Nose Dive Assembly. There is a story that links the whole show together which keeps the kids entertained throughout, and adults will enjoy the skill level and deeper thematic elements of the performance.
M: For someone who has never been to a circus before, why should they check out the Revel Pucks Circus?
R: The Revel Puck Circus makes a great first time circus show - the atmosphere in our tent is one of a warm welcome. There are no expectations on our audiences on how they have to be, they can come and enjoy the circus on their own terms. And of course the incredible skills on show and the only women Wheel of Death Duo in the UK make for a jaw dropping experience!
M: What is the inspiration behind this show?
R: This is the 3rd in our trilogy on Risk. This performance explores the theme of trust: trusting each other, trusting our circus equipment, trusting ourselves. It’s a powerful allegory for how important a role trust plays in all lives, onstage and off.
M: What would be your top tip for pulling off these amazing stunts night after night?
R: Love what you do; If you are performing from a place of love, passion or joy, the audience will share that experience with you. We need more of this in the world. Do your best; Your best may not look the same everyday, one day it may be 40% one day and 100% the next. Be kind to yourself and take comfort in the fact that you are always doing your best. Stay present in the moment and keep challenging yourself; When you’re doing the same thing everyday it’s easy for it to become mundane. I always try to stay connected in the present moment and give myself little challenges to continue working towards to keep things fresh and exciting.
M: Finally, describe The Nose Dive Assembly in three words…
Celebratory, Uplifting, Jawdropping.
The Nose Dive Assembly: Birds of a Feather will be playing at the Brighton Fringe from 2 May to 1 June. More information and tickets are available from the Revel Puck website
